for May 2002
Fremont's Young Artists Showcase.
Congratulations
to all of our top-notch dancers who performed at Fremont's 15th Annual
Young Artists Showcase on May 15th. Megan Ellis' solo performance of "Whistle
Down the Wind," as well as our group performances of "Deliver
Me," "God Bless Us, Everyone," "Proud to Be",
and "Can't Stand the Rain," were spectacular!
Students Meet Maya Angelou
Dancers
from our winning "Phenomenal Women" met the author of the poem
to which they dance, Maya Angelou. They also presented her with a video
tape of their performance. Maya Angelou is a world-wide literature icon
and a wonderful inspiration and role-model for our dancers. One of her
best known works is "I know why the caged bird sings."

Marissa Mattos shines at competition.
Our
own Marissa Mattos performed at the Dance U.S.A. Regional Dance Competition
held in San Francisco from May 4 to 5. She performed her tap solo, "Five
Guys Named Moe." It was the highest scoring solo in all age categories.
She also scored the highest among teen routines, which included solos,
duets, trios and groups. Marissa is a freshman at Washington High School.
Congratulations Marissa!
KAR regional results.
Another
job well done to our dancers at the Kids Artistic Revue Regional in Hayward
on May 25 and 26. You all did a great job!
